Dear all, 27 October 2011
Betty would like to remind us that the first two weeks in November are supposed to be Quarter Peal fortnight, we tend to remember it when it is all over!!! Please contact your ringing master to let them know what you would like to try, perhaps a first inside or first in a method or if you want to call something or just to ring a favourite method – they will be able to find a band to support you. Contact details are all below.

Here are details of the quarterly meeting in November, followed by the normal practices and write-ups from around the district:
Saturday 5 November – Quarterly meeting: Norfolk
10.00 - 11.00 Mundford 6 6-0-3 TL800938 IP26 5DN
Very limited parking near the church, try roadside or village hall. There are no toilets in the church but a lady, who lives nearby, said we could use her outside loo. It is their "Gift Days" weekend and there will be Christmas Cards designed by the children of the village school to view and vote for your favourite ones. Tea and coffee will be provided.
11.30 - 12.30 Northwold 8 14-3-20 TL756970 IP26 5NE
Toilet in church. Followed by short business meeting but there is a wedding at 2.30 and there may be some hustle and bustle going on, so it will be important to be brief.
Lunch: There are pubs at Northwold and Methwold but the recommendation is for the Crown Inn at Northwold. The Landlady would like to know numbers in advance, so important to let Betty know (see contact details below) if you want to book lunch.
2.30 - 3.30 Methwold 8 12-1-22 TL732949 IP26 4PQ
Toilet in church. Parking on roadside or at the rear of the village hall which is opposite the George Pub.

Ringing Master: Betty Baines (01379 643293, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) Wednesday 14 September: Stow Bardolph, Norfolk. About a dozen members had travelled out to my neck of the woods - it felt quite strange not to have to set off early and to be able to leave the dogs at home. Stow Bardolph have eight good bells and it would have been lovely to have some more ‘more experienced’ ringers to enable us to extend our repertoire. However, those who were there made the most of it. Although Stow Bardolph doesn’t have its own band, we had been made most welcome and the bells were ready for us. A combined effort ensured refreshments were there, with Delia’s lovely cake. Everyone who knows me knows that I don’t cook! We rang Plain Bob Doubles, call changes, Little Bob Minor, Plain Bob Triples, Reverse Canterbury PB Doubles, Grandsire, St Nicholas and Stedman Doubles. We were pleased to welcome someone new and one or two people we hadn’t seen for some time. After ringing, some went for lunch, and then to the gardens at Stow Hall. Some of us then went on to the Rare Breeds Centre afterwards. It was lovely to have a meeting ‘at home’, so I hope the Guild comes up to this area again. After all, it was at a meeting in this area that I joined and I haven’t regretted it. There are other ‘ladies’ in this area who might be persuaded! West Norfolk towers are quite spread out, but sometimes just one more experienced ringer would make such a difference. (PW) Thursday 29 September: Bressingham, Norfolk. Several of us initially met at the cafe at Bloom’s Garden Centre due to a lack of facilities at the church. It all felt like first day back at school following the hols – which indeed it was for many of us felt rusty to say the least! We attempted a variety of methods to suit our various levels of knowledge, all of us resolving to do better this term and to make more progress! We raised and lowered in peal and rang Grandsire Doubles, call changes, Plain Bob Doubles, St Simon’s, Treble Bob Hunt, Cambridge S Minor, Stedman Doubles and Plain Hunt on 5 and 6. As no one has come forward to claim the magnificent prize offered in our last write-up, it will be donated to a suitable charity – probably to those who went astray (AMP)

Lynda Lee has sent an update on Carla Broderick’s progress: The doctors are pleased with her progress and her voice is beginning to return, but she still cannot swallow solids and gets very tired. Lynda says that although she has not managed to see Carla yet, she will drop another card through her door when next passing.
Best wishes,
Lesley
