Dear all, 20 August 2011
September is a month of change in the Norfolk/Suffolk area! Please note the re-arranged dates for both practices in Norfolk this month.
Also, the quarterly meeting at the beginning of the month is slightly complicated: there is a service taking place in the first church, Thorpe-le-Soken, starting at 9.30 am. If you are in the tower before 9.30, apparently the Incumbent doesn’t mind you ringing from 9.45 am but as you access the tower through the church, please do not enter the church between 9.30 and 10 am when the service finishes... unless you want to go to the service, of course!
Saturday 3 September – Quarterly meeting
9.45 am – 10.45 am Thorpe-le-Soken 6 9½ cwt TM179223 CO16 0EB
11 am – 12 noon Kirby-le-Soken 8 9-3-1 TM219220 CO13 0GD
Followed by meeting in the hall, then lunch – own arrangements
2.30 pm – 3.30 pm Great Holland 8 15-0-10 TM219193 CO13 0JS
4 pm – 4.45 pm St Osyth 6 10-2-15 TM122155 CO16 8QW

We rang Stedman, Grandsire, St Simon’s/Martin’s spliced, Plain bob, Plain hunt, Rounds & call changes. We found the bells challenging for what was a fairly high proportion of learners, and consequently took the decision to stick to doubles. We had a very nice cake made by Lyn and the rather fine kitchen facilities were much appreciated. I think the 'learners' appreciated the fact that they actually got quite a lot of time and I think some good work was done on improving striking. (JL)

Ringing Master: Betty Baines (01379 643293, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) Saturday 9th July 2011 Carleton Rode, Norfolk. Eleven members attended and we were joined by the Revd Irene Knowles who rang with us. We also had an English visitor on holiday in Norfolk who was fascinated to observe the ringing and bought two LG calendars to take back to her home in France. Thanks go to Kath Gorrod who provided us with excellent refreshments. We had a useful morning ringing demonstration rounds and call changes for our visitor followed by Single Oxford B Minor, Cambridge S. Minor, Plain Hunt, Reverse Canterbury PB Doubles, Stedman and Grandsire Doubles. Thursday 28th July 2011 Woodton, Norfolk. Methods rung: Reverse St Bartholomew Doubles, Grandsire doubles, Cambridge S Minor, Stedman Doubles, Treble Bob Hunt, Beverley S Minor and Single Oxford B Minor. At the height of the holiday season we had just nine members, but this gave us all a lot more learning time. Thanks to Monica, Michelle and Val for the refreshments, and to everyone who made my birthday morning such a memorable one! (AMP)

We are trying to get hold of samples of the polo shirts so that we can check the sizes before placing our order as there is a no-returns policy. The selection of garments with the Centenary logo will be available in late Autumn. All garments are only in navy with the logo on the left breast: please note that each is separately ordered for you and cannot be replaced. Unisex sizes S(34/36) to XXL(46/48). Prices include VAT and p+p:
T shirt £13.00 Polo shirt £20.00 Sweatshirt £24.00 Rugby shirt £30.00
As orders for less than five garments attract a £5.00 per garment penalty, I think it would be a good idea if I collected orders from the district to place with Hilary Aslett in a single go. If you are interested in this, please let me have your order and a cheque made payable to ‘Hilary Aslett’ by Friday 30 September 2011.
Annual Report
The Annual Report for 2010 was distributed at the AGM. There are some with each of the District reps, please let them or me know if you would like one
Best wishes,
