The meeting on December 13th will be followed by Christmas lunch. There will be a reminder nearer the time with a contact number for booking a place – keep the day free! Betty has also suggested that those who are not too full up may like to ring a quarter peal or two in the afternoon. This time we will get definite names and fix up quarters in advance!! Please contact Betty if you would like to take part: btkservices@supanet.com or 01379 643293.

We’ve had a productive month! First there was the quarter peal at Bottisham reported in the last newsletter, next we had a peal attempt at Tostock but after the third attempt, decided discretion was the better part of valour and rang two quarter peals instead!

1.  Lynda Lee  4.  Josephine Beever
2.  Wendy Godden  5.  Barbara le Gallez
3.  Lesley Wilson (C)  6.  Janet Garnett

Rung by members of the Ladies' Guild (Eastern District) to mark the 70th anniversary of the first all-ladies peal in the Eastern Counties. First in both methods: 2.

Also, the normal fifth Thursday quarter peal was rung successfully, this time at Palgrave - despite the very high temperature and the bell that kept going silent!

Finally, here is the report of the last quarterly meeting. Thirteen members and two friends met to ring in Essex. After a good spot of ringing at Thorpe-le-Soken, the meeting was held in a very spacious church room at Great Bentley before trying out the bells, where a local lady joined us.

Report of the Quarterly District Meeting in Essex arranged by Margaret Harvey and Ann Williams, visiting Thorpe-le-Soken, Great Bentley, Shrub End and Layer-de-la-Haye 14th June 2008

  • Apologies for absence were received from Margaret Roberts, Teresa Colthorpe, Helen Naunton, Ruth Ogden, Anne Bridge, Theo Crowder, Sybil MacLean, Kay Lucas, Kathleen Tebble, Gale Hodgkinson and Pauline Millatt.
  • Two new members were elected; Charmane May (Little Baddow), proposed by Wendy Godden and seconded by Lesley Wilson and Jill Morgan, proposed by Lesley Wilson and seconded by Betty Baines.
  • Betty described how the training day in North Norfolk was to be planned.
  • The next Eastern District quarterly meeting is on 13th September in Cambridgeshire. Details will be given in a future newsletter.
  • The venues for the next training sessions were given.
  • Congratulations were given to those who had rung in six Ladies’ Guild quarter peals since the last quarterly meeting with a total of five notable achievements, ranging from a first quarter peal to most methods rung in a quarter peal. Congratulations were also given to Delia Golding who has rung her first quarter peal.
  • Betty handed out programmes for the District ringing holiday in Kent.
  • An 80th birthday card was signed by all present to send to Monica Churchill.
  • A vote of thanks was given to the incumbents for the use of the bells at Thorpe-le-Soken, Great Bentley, Shrub End and Layer-de-la-Haye and to Margaret Harvey and Ann Williams for arranging the towers.

Due to a wedding commitment back in Suffolk, I missed the last two towers but understand a good time was had by all!

Eastern District Quarter Peal and Peal book.

Dear all,
I'm putting together the Ladies' Guild Eastern District Quarter Peal and Peal book.
I've typed up all the quarters in the current Minute book, which dates from April 1984. The records of quarters and peals end in 1992, apart from passing mentions in the minutes but with no details.

Can you help fill in the gaps? If you keep records and were in any Eastern District Ladies' Guild ringing at any date, please could you let me have the details? I can copy written records and let you have the originals back as soon as possible, but electronic versions would be extremely gratefully received!

It would be wonderful to have a complete record of the District's history and progress, so please look out those old ringing records if you can. If you know off-line ladies who might have information, please could you ask them? I'd also be very interested to hear from any lapsed members, if you can contact them on my behalf.

Thank you, in eager anticipation!
Lesley.
